What they are usually referring to is not a 50-year workmanship warranty personally backed by the roofing company. It is typically an upgraded warranty offered through the roofing-material manufacturer and packaged with the roof replacement.

Depending on the manufacturer, roofing system, and warranty level selected, these upgrades can provide extended protection against manufacturing defects in the shingles. Some options may also include manufacturer-backed workmanship coverage for installation-related issues when the roof is installed by a contractor who meets the manufacturer’s requirements.

That coverage is included with the roof replacement. It is not an optional manufacturer upgrade.

We chose a 10-year workmanship period because installation-related problems generally present themselves relatively early in the life of a roofing system. If there is an issue involving flashing, fastening, ventilation, sealing, or another part of the installation covered by our workmanship warranty, it should not take decades for that problem to become apparent.

More importantly, our standard workmanship warranty keeps responsibility where we believe it belongs.
