  • Customer Satisfaction: Treating You Like Family

At Mason Company Roofing, our foundation is family. For over 40 years, we’ve built our company around the belief that customers should be treated the way we would want our own family to be treated. That means clear communication, dependable work, and standing by our word. We understand that hiring a roofing company is a big decision. It’s your home, and you want the work done right. We take that trust seriously and work hard to deliver a finished product you can feel good about. When Problems Come Up Roofing is a trade that depends on materials, weather, and people. As much as we prepare, there are times when something goes wrong. A product may not hold up, a detail might need to be corrected, or a small issue can show itself later. What separates a reliable company from the rest is how they handle those situations. At Mason Company Roofing, we don’t run from problems. We face them, we fix them, and we make sure our customers are taken care of. Our Labor Warranty That’s why we back every full roof replacement with a labor warranty. If there’s an issue with the work, we’ll return to make it right. This isn’t just a formality, it’s our commitment to accountability. When a customer calls us with a concern, we respond. We’ve served this community for decades, and our reputation matters. The warranty is one more way we show that we stand behind what we do. Our Approach to Customer Satisfaction For us, customer satisfaction means: Doing quality work that holds up. Taking responsibility if something needs attention. Treating each customer’s home and time with respect. We know that earning trust doesn’t stop when the job is complete. It’s built over time by being there for our customers whenever they need us. Why We Do What We Do Mason Company Roofing has been family-owned and operated for three generations. We don’t measure success by the number of jobs completed, we measure it by the relationships we build and the people who recommend us to their friends and neighbors. When you work with us, you can count on straightforward service and a team that does what it says it will do. That’s how we’ve always done business, and that’s how we’ll continue to do it.

  • A Rocky Mount Roofing Project with a Personal Touch

Every roofing job has its own challenges and rewards, but sometimes the real story is about the homeowner behind the project. That was the case with our recent job in Rocky Mount, where the combination of a unique labor only agreement, an impressive home history, and a few key takeaways made for a memorable experience. A Home Built with Care The first thing we learned about our client was that he had built his home himself back in the 1980s. Right away, we could tell this was someone who cared deeply about craftsmanship. The home was well built and had a lot character. Every line, every joint, and every choice in materials spoke to the attention to detail and pride of ownership that you don’t always see in today’s fast-paced construction world. It’s always an honor to work on a home where the owner has poured so much of themselves into it. In a way, it feels less like a simple roof replacement and more like preserving a piece of someone’s personal legacy. A Win Win Agreement What made this project a little different from our usual jobs was how the materials were handled. The homeowner works at a supply house, so he was able to source all of the materials himself. That meant we could structure the project as a labor only job, he provided the shingles and other supplies, and we focused entirely on the installation. This kind of arrangement can work out really well when both sides communicate clearly from the start. It simplifies the process for us since we don’t have to factor in material acquisition, and it allows the homeowner to take advantage of their own connections and resources. In this case, it made for a smooth start and a straightforward job plan. The materials provided included about 50 squares of shingles, enough to cover the roof with some to spare, which turned out to be an important detail later on. The Work in Action Once everything was on site, we got to work. One thing we noticed right away was how beneficial it is to have an organized system for rubbish removal. Roofing can generate a surprising amount of debris, old shingles, underlayment, nails, and other materials all have to come down. On this job, we set up an efficient disposal process to get debris off the roof quickly and into a dumpster. Not only did this keep the worksite safer and cleaner, but it also made our cleanup process at the end much easier. It’s a small detail, but it’s one that can save hours over the course of a large project like this. A Lesson in Material Management Another takeaway from this job was the importance of having extra materials on hand. Even when you measure carefully, it’s always better to order more than you think you’ll need. This homeowner did exactly that, which meant we didn’t have to stop work to make supply runs. Running out of shingles or underlayment mid-project can create delays, and if the weather turns unexpectedly, it can even put your home at risk. Having extra on hand is simply smart planning. And if there’s leftover material at the end, most suppliers will accept returns, so there’s really no downside. A Smooth Finish By the end of the job, the home had a brand-new roof installed with care and precision, just like the homeowner had originally built the rest of the house decades earlier. The collaboration between homeowner and contractor made the process smooth, efficient, and cost effective for both sides. For us, the real satisfaction came from knowing we had helped protect a home that was built with such dedication. This project reinforced a few important lessons we’ll carry forward: have a solid rubbish removal system, and always keep extra materials close by. It’s jobs like this, where the story behind the home is just as important as the work itself, that remind us why we love what we do.

  • A Custom Standing Seam Metal Roof for a Unique Build in Our Hometown

Framed and ready, this modern home build in our hometown is about to get its black standing seam metal roof installed. Every now and then, a project comes along that feels personal. This one is in the same area where I grew up, and the homeowner is someone I went to high school with. He is building his own home from the ground up, managing every part of the process himself. From the first sketches to coordinating each contractor, he’s been fully involved in bringing his design to life. From Blueprint to Framing The home is now framed and ready for the next stage, getting it under roof. It’s a modern architectural style with clean lines, large windows, and a layout that reflects the homeowner’s own vision for the space. The design called for a black standing seam metal roof on a 2/12 pitch. That choice immediately set the project apart. Many residential roofs in the area are steeper, and several other roofers had turned the job down. The slope and the fact that it’s two stories high mean extra planning is required for both safety and precision. Why Standing Seam Metal Fits the Plan The homeowner wanted a roof that would fit the style of the house and last for decades. Standing seam metal is well suited to a 2/12 slope when installed correctly, with panels that lock together and channel water away efficiently. It also delivers a crisp, smooth appearance that works with the home’s overall design. Some other contractors had suggested different materials for the slope, but the homeowner was clear about his goal. He had envisioned a black metal roof from the start, and our job is to make sure it is installed to the highest standard. Preparing for the Installation Low slope metal roofing requires precise planning and careful execution. Every seam, flashing detail, and panel alignment needs to be done with accuracy to prevent water intrusion. For this project, our preparation includes: Reviewing the panel layout for clean alignment across the roof. Ensuring all seams are fully sealed and locked. Paying close attention to flashing around edges, valleys, and any roof penetrations. Setting up safety systems for working at height on a shallow pitch. The access to the roof is more challenging because of the height and the surrounding terrain. We’ll stage materials in a way that keeps the workflow moving without unnecessary climbing or carrying. Working with a Familiar Face One of the best parts of this project is the trust that comes from working with someone I’ve known for years. He understands our drive to deliver quality work and ensure customer satisfaction, and we understand the pride he’s taking in building this home. There’s a shared investment in making sure the end result is exactly what he envisioned. Looking Ahead to the Finished Roof Once installed, the black standing seam roof will give the home a strong, finished look. It will highlight the modern design elements while providing reliable protection for decades to come. We’re looking forward to seeing it all come together and to sharing progress updates as the job moves forward. This is the kind of project that challenges our skills and reminds us why preparation and attention to detail matter.

Photo of the Lynchburg Skyline - Photo Credit WSLS There’s something special about working in Lynchburg. Maybe it’s the historic homes with their timeless charm. • The Hidden Costs of Waiting to Replace Your Roof

Sometimes it’s easy to push a roof replacement down the road. Maybe it looks “good enough.” Maybe it’s not leaking, yet. Or maybe the budget just feels tight. At Mason Company Roofing, we understand. But after decades in the business, we can tell you one thing for sure: waiting too long to replace your roof often costs more in the end. 1. Small Problems Turn Into Big Damage An aging roof can hide issues like moisture intrusion, rot, or insulation breakdown. What starts as a few cracked shingles can turn into water damage, mold growth, or structural rot. That $500 repair can quickly become a $5,000 interior renovation. The below photo is from a homeowner who was having issues with water getting into her living room, with visible damage to the drywall. Although something like this looks minor, it can cause thousands in damage. 2. Insurance Might Not Cover Delayed Damage Many homeowners are surprised to learn that insurance doesn’t always cover damage that occurs due to neglect. If your insurer determines that the damage was preventable with timely maintenance or replacement, your claim might be denied. 3. Your Energy Bill Might Be Higher Than It Should Be An old roof doesn’t just protect your home, it helps regulate your indoor temperature. If your shingles are worn out or your ventilation is poor, your HVAC system has to work harder. That means higher energy bills, especially during Virginia’s hottest and coldest months. 4. Materials Keep Going Up in Price Like everything else, roofing materials have increased in cost year after year. A roof that costs $10,000 this year might cost $11,000 or more next year. By planning ahead and locking in your quote now, you can save on inflation. 5. Home Value and Curb Appeal Drop If you're planning to sell your home in the next few years, an aging or stained roof is one of the first things buyers (and inspectors) notice. A new roof not only protects your investment—it boosts your home’s value and first impression. We’re Here When You’re Ready At Mason Company Roofing, we never pressure customers, but we do believe in honest conversations. If you’ve been putting off a roof replacement, let us give you a free, no-obligation estimate. We'll inspect your current roof, talk through your options, and give you a clear path forward. Protect your home. Protect your wallet. Let’s get ahead of the problem, together.

  • Protect Your Home from Heavy Rain with Effective Gutter Solutions

Summer storms in Virginia can be relentless. One minute it’s calm, then the skies open up with a torrential downpour. While most people worry about leaks from above, what many homeowners overlook is the critical role gutters play in protecting your roof, siding, and even your foundation. At Mason Company Roofing, we see it every season: clogged or damaged gutters causing problems that could have been prevented. Here’s what you need to know about how rain affects your home, and why functioning gutters are your best defense. The Real Job of Your Gutters Gutters do more than keep rain from splashing on your porch. Their job is to channel water away from your roof, siding, windows, and foundation. When gutters are working properly, they: Prevent standing water on the roof Keep fascia boards and soffits from rotting Reduce the risk of mold and mildew in attic spaces Stop water from pooling around the foundation Protect landscaping from erosion Without effective gutters, even a single heavy rainstorm can cause long-term damage to multiple parts of your home. What Happens When Gutters Fail Here’s what we see most often when gutters are clogged, sagging, or not draining correctly: 1. Roof Leaks When water backs up because of clogged gutters, it can seep under shingles and leak into your attic or walls. This kind of leak isn’t always visible right away, and by the time you spot a ceiling stain, there may already be insulation damage or mold growth. 2. Fascia and Soffit Rot The fascia board is the horizontal edge just under your roofline, and it helps support your gutter system. When water overflows or pools at the edge, it causes the wood to rot, leading to structural weakness and costly repairs. 3. Foundation Damage One of the most expensive outcomes of poor drainage is foundation cracking. If water consistently pools around your home’s base, it can seep into the soil and cause it to shift. Over time, this leads to cracks, sinking, and serious structural issues. 4. Basement Flooding In homes with basements, backed-up gutters often result in water seeping through walls or window wells, leading to flooding or moisture buildup that can damage floors, furniture, and HVAC systems. How Gutter Guards Make a Difference If you’re tired of dragging out the ladder every season, gutter guards are worth considering. These systems prevent leaves, sticks, and debris from clogging your gutters—so water can always flow freely, even during heavy downpours. At Mason Company Roofing, we install high-quality gutter guards that: Reduce maintenance Prevent pests from nesting Improve water flow Extend the life of your gutter system They’re a simple investment that can save thousands in future repairs. When to Replace Your Gutters Not sure if your gutters need attention? Here are a few signs: Visible sagging or pulling away from the house Rust or cracks in metal sections Water spilling over the sides during rain Mold or peeling paint around the fascia Erosion or pooling water near your foundation If your gutters are showing any of these symptoms, it might be time to upgrade. Mason Company Roofing Can Help We don’t just handle roofs, we install full gutter systems and gutter guards designed to protect your home year-round, especially during storm season. ✅ Custom-fit gutters that match your home’s style ✅ Heavy-duty materials for long-lasting performance ✅ Optional gutter guards for low-maintenance protection ✅ Honest inspections and pressure-free estimates Whether you're dealing with existing gutter problems or just want to be prepared before the next big storm, we’re here to help. • 5 Signs Your Roof Is Trying to Tell You Something

Most homeowners don’t think about their roof, until it leaks. But like anything else, your roof gives off warning signs before real problems start. Catching those signs early can save you money, stress, and major damage down the road. At Mason Company Roofing, we’ve seen it all. Here are 5 signs it might be time for a roof inspection, replacement or repair: 1. Shingles Are Curling, Cracking, or Missing Take a look at your roofline from the ground. If you see shingles that are curling upward at the edges, cracking down the center, or missing altogether, your roof is telling you it’s worn out. Wind, rain, and sun exposure break down the protective asphalt over time, and once shingles start to fail, water can get in fast. 2. Granules Are Piling Up in Your Gutters When cleaning your gutters, keep an eye out for dark, gritty debris, those are shingle granules, and they’re not supposed to be there. Granules act like armor, protecting your roof from UV rays and weather. If they’re washing away, your shingles are losing their defense. You might also notice a silvery or shiny appearance when sunlight hits your roof. That’s not a good thing, it means the granules have worn off, and the fiberglass or asphalt base layer underneath is now exposed. At that point, your shingles are no longer doing their job. 3. Leaks or Water Stains Indoors Brown spots on the ceiling, peeling paint, or damp drywall are big red flags. Even a small leak can turn into a costly mess if it reaches insulation, wood framing, or electrical wiring. If you see any signs of moisture inside your home, have the roof checked right away. 4. Your Roof Is Over 20 Years Old Even if it looks okay from the street, roofing materials break down over time, especially under Virginia’s mix of summer sun, winter ice, and storm season. If your roof is 20+ years old, it’s a good idea to have it inspected, even if you’re not seeing problems yet. 5. You Notice Sagging, Dark Spots, or Soft Areas A sagging roofline could mean trapped moisture or failing roof decking. Dark patches on the surface might be algae or water saturation. If parts of your roof feel spongy underfoot, that’s a sign the structure is being compromised. These aren’t cosmetic issues, they’re safety concerns. Ready When You Are At Mason Company Roofing, we don’t believe in scare tactics or sales pressure—just straight answers, skilled craftsmanship, and a handshake you can count on.
